I was also thinking about making these yokai depend on psychic energy that they needed like food to survive.
Energy who leaked naturally from the human world into theirs.
This is why partnering with humans gives them a boost.
There would also be evil yokai who basically decide to brain humans by force to get it etc.
Yokai would not have a limited lifespan and do not age. However can die if killed or starved from psychic energy.
I also did think about a system that would explain why there are multiple copies of the same yokai because this also would be a fact of life.
I would also include shit loads of old yokai (originated from feudal japan) who are lifted from inuyasha. Because I like this aesthetic. It is really not that hard since they would be digimon based and I can simply use clothing or weapons to give them (the weapons are part of their body BTW even if seperated).
There was losts of potential in this franchise. Basically the conflict between old yokai and the new yokai who are all dinosaurs with rockets.
This would explain why demon and angel like yokai exist and are so powerful they are basically the manifestation of the human imagination and since demons and angels where thought to be very powerful here is the answer.
