It's here that you finally come to terms with acknowledging Odysseus' biggest issue. Unless you and he patch things up soon, this unbalanced streak of wins and losses is going to continue. Odie is a powerhouse obviously, there's no doubt about the immense strength he has within him, but he's not that great at thinking on the spot, which is what screws him big time more often than not.
To go from helping you defeat Wikstrom to losing in the Champion match more or less cements his battle records as nothing but on and off luck. Sometimes he hits the sweet spot, sometimes he doesn't.
But you know what? Sometimes isn't good enough for you, you can't keep standing to the side and relying on this guy yelling blindly and punching everything in sight and hoping that's enough for him to win. No. You need actual teamwork to keep the win rate up, and it seems like a nickname isn't going to enough to accomplish it.
It's not going to be easy to invoke change like that. Pokemon nature is very strict like that.
"Chessnn......"
As he lies on his back, defeated and breathing heavily, you hold out his pokeball to him.
"You... you did alright. But you could do better. /We/ could do better. This isn't going to be our last fight, not by a long shot, and if we want to win without any hiccups, we've got to work together. Maybe not as friends. But, hopefully, I can call you that one day. And we can fight and be strong together."
"Naaaaaa.."
You recall him, and become more determined than ever to become million 'dolla strong.
"Oh Jon... When will you learn that it's hopeless? You can't become Champion, it's impoooooossible to defeat me...."
The Champion has turned into Garfield. No, really.
A) "Oh oh oh! You're that cat who said 'ALL OF TEH DAY BRO' in that one meme image right?!"
B) "Aren't you just a ripoff of Heathcliff? Then again, his strip wasn't that funny either.."
C) "Holy shit, how are you talking without moving your mouth?"
