My gym/alola challenge would be in a sealed bunker with a large metal door blocking the way. The only way the trainer can get inside is by using the Pokemon assist thingy in SM to get an aggron (or gen 7's bulky steel type) to break the door down for them. Inside is a research lab with me typing on a PC with a Togedemaru on my head and a Metagross using it's psychic powers to lift a test tube holder full of glowing liquid. The crash of the door breaking causes Metagross to drop the test tubes and me to jump. When I see the trainer I approach and say "Phew, It's just a trainer. You scared the life out of me there kiddo. Only a strong steel type could have broken that door down, you must have quite the mastery of pokemon to get in here. Here in my humble lab we research Z-crystals and what gives them there power. I assume you want to battle..." Togedemaru jumps off my head onto a large red button that causes the floor to open below the trainer resulting in them falling into a dark pit. "But first you must prove yourself worthy and work out how to get out of there." After I say that the lights go on and the player sees a klefki with a large golden key infront of a golden door. On seeing you the klefki runs off into the tunnels to the side where you fight a series of steel type pokemon and trainers until you get to the Klefki. It turns out the Klefki is the totem pokemon of the gym and after beating it he gives you a key to the golden door that leads to an elevator that brings you back up to the first floor. As soon as I see you I say "So It seems you are a strong trainer, I've been trying to get that darn key of that pesky Klefki for days. Lets see how you do in battle." In battle Togedemaru uses the steel type Z-move. When the player beats me I give them a steel type Z-crystal and the flash cannon tm. "That TM is for flash cannon. (description of flash cannon). Steel types aren't all about brute force you know, teach that to a steel type with high special attack."
