Same with rock smash, fly, surf, etc. Let's say you need to surf and you just caught a Goldeen, or a Sharpedo or any Pokemon that by lore can surf. You just hop on it and that's it.
No HMs wasting slots and it makes the Pokemon in your team seem like a friend that helps in your journey rather than something you only battle with.
