This franchise is way too big and ubiquitous, it's not something you can forget and abandon completely, you will forever remember it and every once in a while you will check the news about upcoming games and stuff, and you will most likely play some of those games out of sheer interest.
Even if you'll stop being an active fan, your interest will never truly go away. Until Pokemon is alive, it will continue grabbing your attention. And after it dies you will get nostalgic over it, replaying old games and going through your old TCG collections or whatever. That's just how it works.
