My gimmick..? Uh. Maybe a quiz gameshow sort of thing about bug type pokemon. If you get the question right you get to pass that area without battling the trainer, and get closer to the leader. In later rematches you also can opt to have the gameshow/pre leader area reset and get an item reward like a potion/etc. for each question answered correctly (they'd get harder).
