They then proceed to put little things in here and there, like what you just mentioned, Festival fucking Plaza, Battle Tree "difficultly", and the unused walking/running Pokemon animation, just to taunt players who know better.
If they aren't that malicious... then they are literally Icarus in how they TRY and make a really fleshed out, full game, but then push it out to soon just for the attempt to crash and burn.
But it still don't matter because it sells.
