I did it. After some time (most of it was spent on grinding), I beat the game; no items, set battle and not even a full team.
Ironically enough the first two members of the elite 4 were the hardest but that was mainly due to missing a lot of moves and getting low rolls which led to hilarious moments like Lorelei getting the freeze TWICE and Bruno getting a lucky crit and then steamrolling the rest of the team. After that though the rest were easy. Butterfree swept Agatha and Pinsir swept Lance AND Blue, proving to be the powerhouse I knew she would be.
Overall the challenge despite the limitations weren’t that bad and actually really fun. I had already used each of these bugs (and Scyther) and doing a run with just these girls and boy was all the more enjoyable
