>>55060438Next, onto the third level. The quantum multiverse. This level is in several ways similar to the first level, and many people actually believe they're the same thing. The key difference, however, is that unlike in the level 1 multiverse, where the "other versions" of one's world lie far away in space, in the level 3 multiverse all of these different versions lie on top of each other. This universe "branches out" into multiple other universes in the future depending on the outcome of certain events in the past. There's, for example, an universe where you went to buy groceries today. But there's also a universe where you stayed at home. And a universe where you were shot and died. All of these were possible outcomes, and actually HAPPENED in another timeline. But you only got to experience one of these timelines. The others split off into the level 3 multiverse.
In pokémon, this level has been mentioned across different games, like the "different worlds" in BW or the "non-mega universe" in ORAS. However, there are still doubts if the aforementioned universes were actually a level 3 multiverse, or just a level 1 multiverse.
With Scarlet and Violet we get the first direct mention of this type of multiverse. Tera crystals seem to allow different timelines to interact. So a character from a timeline where the professor went crazy can interfere with another timeline and make the professor not go crazy there.
The paradoxes come from the pasts and futures of some of these alternate timelines. They're not ultra beasts, because those are just creatures that live trillions of light years away. They're paradoxes because they live in different timelines that split from the main one across the level 3 multiverse.
