Seriously, there's so MUCH new stuff, despite everything being the same. There's actual sidequests everywhere now (NPC wanting to see items/moves/pokemon and even generic fetchquests) and collecting stickers is a lot better than collecting Zygarde cum, because you get immediate rewards.
They also added more story, but sped up the slog at the start (it now takes 10 minutes to get your starter, not 40).
Unfortunately, you will still be held up for a cutscene for story-dialogue every 10 fucking feet.
In terms of gameplay, we get movetutors back, have more post-game, new pokes and health-bars move faster, which speeds up the battle.
I would recommed if for everyone who plays online, because you have to and everyone who hasn't gotten Sun and Moon. However, if you're just in it for the single player and already played the last game? Don't touch.
