I've just played again Platinium recently and I remember when I first got Diamond (lost it) when I was 12/13. I played it for hours, even after E4, just... doing nothing? Capturing new pokemon, training, exploring a bit etc...
Now, when I finish a game it's not the same thing, if there isn't any interesting thing to do (story, quest, legendary to find etc...) I just don't play anymore. I also got hyped as hell when ORAS was announced, as Hoenn is my first (before there were my brother's games) and favorite gen, but it was different. I don't know if it's for the graphics, the musics, me getting older, all of above or something else, but it really felt differently.
Now I'm just waiting for the next main game to be announced, jump on the hype train for a few weks/months, get the game, get excited as a kid, beat it in 15 hours, play a bit more, get bored again, and wait 6 to 9 more months until the next announcement.
