The Delta Episode was an homage to Emerald. The rest of the game makes references to Juan and Emerald-exclusive events but in that sense they removed just as much from Emerald as HGSS did from Crystal.
Crystal had:

I'm not even trying to shill or defend them since leaving out the Battle Frontier proper and the gym team upgrades is completely inexcusable.
But you cannot honestly be saying that BDSP is somehow more loyal to Platinum when even ORAS and HGSS deserve credit for what they did, despite still removing things from the third version.
