As a writer and character designer, I tend to prefer trying to defy expectations than to do what an audience would normally want from a concept. So in my mind, I thought "Why not have an Alolan girl who does kung-fu? We have Hala who has a very sumo wrestler like aesthestic, so... What if I blended that with cooking? Would give me an excuse to experiment more with making food around the house."
