Like you got psi-based and mental abilities which already right out the gate has a shitton of sub-categories, but then it also covers magic AND cosmic stuff. Anything with enigmatic powers has Psychic Type slapped on and that just isn't interesting, it doesn't diversify the world, one Type just has way too broad of a scope. Not all mysterious powers can or should automatically be Psychic.
Psychic Type itself even suffers from this, because the more broad a scope it has, the less identity it has. Thankfully Fairy relieved some of this but Fairy's brand of magic is also fairly different and they don't overlap a ton. Pic rel. So it only barely helped the problem.
