I don't see what the big fucking deal is or why people are mad. Exoticising what we're getting now as some godlike Japanese-given gift is gay when higher-quality versions of the same art were all over merch back in the day (surprise, most Pokemon fans on the western Internet hemisphere aren't fucking Japanese and so comprehensive info on all the merch over on that side just isn't there), but the effort of cataloguing it is something that ought to have happened long ago. I don't give a shit about your drama with some twitter fuckwad either regardless of if they're involved or not.

I thought that was awesome too, but like other anons said he's not that tough and gets one-upped by the true final boss Ghetsis five seconds later. (Which again mirrors Prof Oak walking in to congratulate you, except Ghetsis is a bad motherfucker of a parental figure who's here to beat you himself)

It's fine to sum the situation up as "it was too difficult", but honestly you can just as easily say that there was more to the reasons why Lost Levels never made it over in the NES era. The SMB1 dev team just whipped it up like a modern 'romhack' for expert players after the first game was released and proved to be a hit. It was only released for the Famicom Disk System, which used floppy disks (instead of cartridges) that you could write (and re-write) a game onto at stores for a paltry price. It was this sort of market environment that allowed Lost Levels to be released in Japan; it might not have been deemed financially worth it if it would have been necessary to release it as a full cartridge game, like in the west which never had the Disk System add-on. Even games with limited appeal like a super hard Mario platformer could turn a profit when there was an opportunity to make and sell it for relatively cheap. Kinda like today's downloadable games and DLC.
