>>16782206>But you're actually going to tell me that this is on par with this? While the second is certainly better (it's extended and recorded as a song for one thing while the first was recorded like dialogue) the first still has its charm. I just listened to both back to back and loved them for different reasons. Really this just makes me sad we'll never get a fully extended dub of this song with the original dub trio.
>I'm not even trying to be a weeaboo here, but if we're willing to admit the One Piece, Shaman King and Yu Gi Oh 4kids dubs are bad, then why not Pokemon?Out of these examples only One Pieces has another dub to compare it to. The 4Kids One Piece changed so much it effected everything about the characters and would result in plot holes if they were still dubbing the show. Meanwhile FUNimation are actually dubbing One Piece, it's an improvement in every way. Then you look at the alternate dub for Pokémon and there's no improvement. The cast are passable at best, the music had a huge drop in quality and they're still making awful changes to make it seem more American.
As for Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh it was about the way the plot was handled. I still like the cast of both shows myself along with their openings. The changes that make them bad dubs are the fact these shows have a story with serious themes 4Kids will throw away and replace with a joke. With Pokémon it very rarely got serious and when it did 4Kids would actually leave it in there.
So yeah 4Kids aren't a good dub company but the one show they dubbed that wasn't ruined by their dub format was Pokémon. Nothing was really lost from their changes and sometimes we even gained something.
>Is it because you weren't exposed to the Japanese version at all?Nope. The Japanese version is my personal favourite means of viewing Pokémon. Back when 4Kids were still dubbing I watched both and knew which format was better. Enjoying a dub doesn't make you blind to how much better the original is.
