If I expect nothing, but get something, I can be happy because I got something. It's a win-win situation. Compare that to the optimist, who keeps getting hyped, only to be disappointed time and time again. The only time they ever get to be happy is at the very end, where they finally get the thing they've been waiting for.
I already have enough sadness in my life. I don't need to add perpetual disappointment to that, too.
