The vast majority of Gen 8/9 Pokemon are all being gifted unique traits that older Pokemon can't ever hope of getting because those traits are exclusive.
Prior to Gen 6, starters were just above-average standard Pokemon. The Gen 3 starters had signature moves that were either sidegrades or downgrades to existing moves and would be given out to tons of Pokemon in the following gen. Meanwhile both of Cinderace's signature moves and its signature ability are still exclusive to it the very next gen, and both signature moves are outright better than other existing moves.
