Honedge and Doublade are fucking great, and I'd argue better than Aegislash in some ways. Their ribbon-hands look much more like an incidental piece of a sword that became a hand after being possessed; however with Aegislash they just sort of look and act like arms that were plopped onto the sides of a sword. Also, the hilt is weirdly warped into a conical shape for no good reason. Aegislash's design would be a lot better if instead of a shield, its form change would switch between being sheathed and unsheathed, with the sheath being more grandiose and elegant.
You can argue that Doublade is another one of those "there's just more of them" evolutions, but in their case it makes sense because it turns their sheath into a sort of coat of arms where you'd normally display swords.
I still really like Aegislash, but I feel like it dropped the ball by dropping its sheath for a shield when a sheath would've done the same thing (and looked better than a sword just holding a shield in front of itself).
