Not every smellfag is a footfag, but footfags can also be smellfags.
If you're a footfag that isn't into smells that's fine but having a compulsive need to draw a wedge to that degree seems off to me. They're not "fake" footfags and trying to curate an image of what you're into doesn't make you look good or better than what other people are willing to treat you as. If you're a footfag, it doesn't matter if you're into smells or not, you're not going to get a better image because other people don't like feet and you're not going to improve how other people see you. And you're damned foolish if you think it's because of the smellfags that you -- one with a propensity to being sexually attracted to the elements that make up the shape and size of a beautiful woman's foot -- need to look good in front of those who already don't get it.
TL;DR: Even if smellfags didn't exist, non-footfags will still hate you.
