From a purely design standpoint, a lot of the new mons are pretty solid, and this is what most people find appeal in.
But their 2D presentation thus far has been total ass, which is also what most people find offense in.
It seems to me that a lot of the current clashing opinions is due to people looking at it on two different wavelengths.
Pic related. They're both still Voltorb design-wise, but there's a clear difference of presentation. One group sees a potentially great design concept; the other group just sees a circle with eyes.
