Probably a longshot, but some time ago I was reading a story here about a 20-something failed child trainer who ended up adopting a Vaporeon despite working a dead-end job. Notable in that the Vaporeon could communicate with the trainer in bodies of water. I remember reading it here, but I've not been able to track it down.
