Pokémon Special itself is okay. It's a lot wilder and more dramatic than the anime, occasionally gets a bit edgy but mostly just in the first arc. Some people think the occasional edgy moments are the entire manga, which is why there's a vehement dislike of it by some people on /padt/. Overall it does shonen fine enough, and does it better than the anime in my personal opinion
cover your ears for the autistic screeching incoming from that one guy, but it's still a shonen for kids.
I haven't read Electric Tale of Pikachu but I hear more praise for it than Pokéspe.
