You dont know the opponents moves!
The interesting part of trade battles is that you don't know the moves and species of the pokemon your oponent has. Pokemon themselves have types but can learn moves of every type. But, among them there are pokemon with multiple types(using 複数, plural, instead of 2) and can learn unexpected moves. Read your oponent's face, use unexpected moves is an effective technique.
When you choose a water-type pokemon, your oponent will likely pick a grass pokemon to resist it. At that moment, if you use a Psychic-type move you will no doubt surprise your oponent.
But if you use a TM pay attention. Tms can only be used once. Think properly on which pokemon will that move work best.
Moves like “Selfdestruct” can be said to be ideal for link battles.
Its also important to build pokemon to use in link battles.
Its desirable to have at least more than 2 types of pokemon.
Also don't forget the balance between the 6 party members.
In other words, its important to make your team balanced by having pokemon of different types.
Follow the rules and have fun
The most important thing in link battles is to follow the rules.
For instance, the fun is halved if there's a big gap between the two pokemon's power.
Before starting the battle, decide the rules and adjust the pokemon levels accordingly.
Also, don't use forbidden moves.
Moves like “put to sleep”(couldn't find which one was referint to exactly), or “bind” make your opponents pokemon unable to move and make the match one-sided and boring.
Link battles have a system to not use items so keep in mind you can't restore your pokemon.
Link battles are their own thing.
