Ethan/Lyra & Dawn/Lucas are the most important characters in Pokémon.
Because of the HG/SS Event, we know that Ethan/Lyra are the canon owners of not just Arceus, but one of three possible Creation Gods.
However, you couldn't obtain Arceus in HG/SS, you had to have received it in a trade from Platinum, where Dawn/Lucas had the opportunity to catch Arceus in an Event.
Because of the HG/SS Event, we can assume that Dawn/Lucas did infact catch the PokéGod, and probably at the request of Arceus himself, send him over to the Johto region, to Ethan/Lyra, knowing that they would eventually bring Arceus to the Ruins of Alph.
On top of this, Ethan/Lyra defeat Red, the previous Pokémon champion at the time, and Ethan/Lyra wasn't present at the Pokémon World Tournemant, making Ethan/Lyra not only undefeated Champions, but the owner of Gods.
