That's one thing that Kalos brought back, and probably one of the only things that Kalos did right, that was missing in Sinnoh and Unova. In Sinnoh once you reach Sunyshore there's really no point in going anywhere else but North to the Pokemon League. You can't really return to Twinleaf or Sandgem unless you backtrack to places you've already visited.
