Ironically, the writers inadvertently gave her a good background, an enormous inferiority complex vis-a-vis her sisters, which led her to become a good gym leader, the writers of the first seasons passed this element, but thanks to Chronicles and special episodes were given better emphasis.
Misty was an excellent opportunity to show us the whole journey that a Trainer must have to become a gym leader (Accreditation, medal making, team building, gym management, inspection, warnings, regulation, income, public relations, social work) but at the end of the day the writers just wanted a girl to attract the female market.
Personally, I like Alola Misty more, since she is more mature and sure of herself.
