Maybe after he saw a Blastoise in action he'd work toward evolving his Squirtle. Maybe after his Squirtle evolved into Blastoise he could slap some damn sense into Ash's disrespectful Charizard and other cool shit like that. Squirtle is great but I just really wanted to see a Blastoise on Ash's team. But Gary needed an ace I guess, so meh.
