Another thing from Arceus is that one Riley's ancestor appears, Rye, but if you remember Riley he has a Groudon pendant, just like another frontier trainer does (the Hoenn guy), just with Kyogre instead.
It's weird for a sinnohian to have a hoennian item but if you go to the hunts of Diamond Clan and Pearl Clan you see important figures of the clan used to be hoennians (Maxie and Archie ancestors) AND the game says they don't really come from Hisui, they just went there for "the almighty Sinnoh" so I say both clans are from Hoenn and Riley descends from Rye and one of these hoennians who had that Groudon item, he could even descend from Maxie's ancestor himself.
Also Alder looks a lot like the portrait of a man both clans respect. Given the only thing they shared prior the game was worshipping the legend of Sinnoh it's likely Alder's ancestor was the legendary hero of Sinnoh from the game's lore.
And that would the man your predecessor. And you are someone from the future who was sent to Hisui. It's entirely possible this man isn't Alder's ancestor, but Alder himself.
