I doubt any of you remember since it was just a throwaway post in a previous thread, but I've been going through the planning phases for an Essentials game where every Pokemon evolves following mechanics similar to that of Eevee, with the main goal being to develop unique and interesting evolutions for the series' existing Normal types.
However, I don't think it's a good choice nor is it all that feasible to use EVERY single Normal type for evolutions. For one, I doubt anyone wants to see 28 or so Flying dual type Pokemon between Pidgey, Spearow, Hoothoot, Taillow, Starly, Pidove, and Rufflet. So, in narrowing down the overall list, I've ended up focusing a bit more towards a mix of "essential" Normal types (ones like Jigglypuff that are notable within the franchise), Normals that already have dual typings for interesting evolutions (Girafarig being a good example, allowing me to try out things like Dark/Psychic), and finally Pokemon that simply fill particular niches or that there's a fantastic opportunity for a good design.
My big question for you guys is, what Normal types from the franchise would you really consider essential to include? Maybe some Normal types that have potential but don't get much love normally, or some that really stick out to you for unique opportunities?
