No stone was left unturned when they made this game and it did a fantastic job balancing as much as they could. You are apparently too young to remember the drastic change gen 2 made over gen 1 in terms of balance.
The music and atmosphere were awesome as well as the night/day mechanic. Replayability is extreamely high for this game as well. New games are too short and easy.
This game brought breeding, held items, and new types into the mix too.
