I'd simply find a good starter job that doesn't need references, sleep under a bridge. Use my first paycheck to maybe buy a Pokeball and try and catch whatever is immediately available to me.
But probably not, I'd have to feed my Pokemon and I'd have no money to start off.
If the Pokemon was any good at battles, I could make some cash that way.
