A well-known AAA studio that is an arm of one of the most well-known entertainment companies in the world should not be outdone in ANY aspect by a game that's over a decade old. GF should be making nothing short of "exemplary" every single release, or at the very least maintain the standard of that which has come before you.
You should always work to improve upon what you have and strive for excellence. If you can't achieve that, then step down from the stage; there are plenty who WILL in your place.
Again, if you want to argue complacency, you are literally arguing against improvement in the industry.
