Something I just realized is that the love for Horizons is more genuine than the series before it. Horizon's is a fresh slate with completely new characters, which means that the people who like it truly do like it as, other than the brand itself, there's nothing to make people trick themselves into liking it like they did with the Ashime. The sunk cost for the Ashime was real and people only stuck around to see it to the end, whether it was out of hatewatching or the all-too-familiar self inserting manchild, they had no real reason to like the show other than not wanting to 'waste' the time they had already invested.
/padt/'s, and the internet as a whole's, overwhelmingly positive reception towards Horizons and Ash's retirement is evidence of this. Normally people would be more upset when an old character is replaced, but that hasn't happened with Horizon's outside of the occasional /pol/fag seeing Roy or our resident self-inserting retard failing to cope. Horizon's, while arguably not a masterpiece, is undoubtedly at least good.
