(I mean, it's not as if pokémonxpokémon significantly hones a pokémon's battle qualities, yet a trainer in a loving committed relationship with their pokémon is a nigh unbeatable battle pairing). If a pokémon needs a human to achieve its fullest potential, it stands to reason the purest relationship one can have is one where it is afforded the ability to reach that potential.
