>>45303163VGC is what they call the in-person tournaments, retard. It's always been doubles format.
>>45303182No, you're just presenting a brainlet take on singles. Any competitive player will tell you that you don't just think about the two Pokemon out in play when considering a move, but also what your opponent has in reserve as well as your own reserves. So while it's one opponent on the field to consider, you have up to five more to think about at any given time. Compare with doubles where you have two out, but only up to two more to think about at any given time. You could argue you don't know which two they left out, but you could say that's balanced by switching being much more punishable in doubles. In the end you have more to consider on the immediate field but less thinking ahead. Early advantages also snowball more easily for obvious reasons. All in all I'd say they're roughly on equal footing.
Most of all you're delusional if you think a singles player doesn't have to think a ton before they move. If you've ever watched skilled players battle in realtime, you'll see them take their fucking time deciding what to do. Just because the game appears simple on the surface doesn't mean there isn't a lot going on under the hood, and that's the beauty of Pokemon in general.
>So many strategies become unstoppable outside of doubles.Depends on what you mean by "unstoppable", there are certainly some strategies that are extremely difficult to break once set up. But you also have ample opportunity to disrupt their set up. Part of the fun is trying to figure it out and cock block them.
Doubles is offensively oriented while singles allows for more defensive play.
