They really could've hyped her return up and had her glow-up. Imagine a funny moment where they cross paths at the PWC and Ash has his mouth agape when he sees the new her.
Ash: Misty is that you?
*camera pans up*
Misty: What's the matter, Ash? Meowth got your toungue?
They really could've done a nice grow apart--> come back together arc (with a little bit of drama), resulting in an eventual romance at the end in a final epilogue
