Other possibles include Big O,err, Golurk, Flygon, Whiscash, an as yet non-existant Ground/Fighting or Ground/Fairy type (Justified on one of these would be nice). Sorry, don't feel strongly about Garchomp, even tho it has dat stats. Maybe Donphan or Marowak for a token monotype. Huh, there really aren't that many, just a few.

-Desert. Sand ERVRYwhere.
-Enclosed open space with a retractable roof/ceiling to let the sun in and keep the rain out.
-Maybe an pool/oasis, waterfall here and there with some plants,succulents. Not TOTALLY desolate land.
-Real simple and natury to cater to (and advantage) my pokemon.
You gotta think about that I think. Do you know what you're getting into being a type specialist for some of these types? Pick at your own risk! Electric type - lightning bolts flying everywhere. Ice type - freezing cold all the time. Ghost type - can't even go to the bathroom without one of them playing tricks, making illusions. Water - make sure you don't drown! Fire - always and everything hot. Careful with doorknobs, metal benches and if some of the pokemon living in the gym get in a fight. Have gigantic Dragons walking and Flying around all day...
