The issue with Pokemon retro is that Gen 1 was an absolute shitshow. Also the nature of the game is such that, as you add more and more cards to a format, the chance that some retarded combo exists grows exponentially.
There are some communities that play retro formats and retro-inspired formats, but they're pretty small.
