After Fuwa one-shotting Cray's Krokorok with a crit Giga Drain, Exacdrill was sent out. She weathered his Rock Slide and got off a Charm before the switch, and I went with Dig on Klaptrap, taking just 20 HP's worth of damage from a Slash. While he used Hone Claws to regain his lost attack, I kept smacking him with Digs, but twice over Clay used Hyper Potions. Getting off a third Dig, with Excadrill's health almost at the red and with him at +1 Attack, I felt confident that Krokorok could take his next move and go into the final Dig.
And then she got hit by a Bulldoze that killed her instantly.
Perhaps I shouldn't have underestimated that Slash damage. Maybe she would have tanked it well enough if those precious twenty hit points weren't taken off...but she is gone, either way. Her service, however, was admirable - she soloed Elesa, and paved the way for Crush to finish off Excadrill with Aqua Jet. Palpitoad only needed a single Razor Leaf from Sherwood.
Deciding on a replacement for such a good member of the team is difficult...the Joltik I caught - heh, always was fond of Beast Wars, by the way - has a good enough nature in Rash. Vanillite may be a good addition, and there's Prada to possibly to back to as well. As I conclude my journey for the day, I'll mull over my options...and mark the loss of a good companion.
