Then over in the west, they Frankenstein the JP sets, bump rarity, print the cards on crap cardboard, and the folks come curved.
See: Yu-Gi-Oh TCG vs OCG, Pokemon as you mentioned, Duel Masters which does not even exist in the west. Only exception is Magic, where the cards are overpriced crap everywhere in the world.

Live, like Master Duel, doesn't really care all that much about your winrate and the game is pretty generous with deck building options. In fact, it makes it hard to spend money. Meanwhile Arena is a meticulously crafted Skinner Box where the intentionally rig your duels to get you to spend more money since the game is super stingy with cards and you need to win a lot just to stay afloat in f2p.
