Cleared a Nuzlocke for the first time (pic related) a few days ago and thought I'd post about my experiences. With two wipes and, in total, a whopping 26 deaths, it was certainly clumsy.
Speaking of those wipes, do you guys typically concede entire runs as lost upon blacking out? With some pains I managed to rise from the ashes after losing to Totem Araquanid (jfc I underestimated Rain + Water Bubble + STAB Bubble), but losing most of my team in a wipe to Totem Ribombee (fuck that Quiver Dancing bitch), I nearly lost all motivation to continue playing. In neither instance was I nearly at risk of losing by running out of mons, leaving the only real way of "failing" the Nuzlocke to just be ragequitting. Is this a problem, or a test of perseverance?
In the aftermath of that wipe to Totem Ribombee, I really didn't like the sound of grinding level 40s to level 60 off of Vast Poni Canyon, so I took to Ultra Warp Ride of all places, and boy could that feature be gamebreaking. I refrained from catching legendaries and more than one Ultra Beast and still got away with some damn powerful rewards. Looking for a decent place to level up, I returned to try to just gain experience off of its level 60 Pokemon and immediately found a Shiny Hippowdon. I called Shiny Clause and took it to the Hall of Fame, but I realize that Shiny odds can be so absurdly high in this feature that I could have abused it a lot more. On the other hand, I did lose my Aerodactyl to a Trainer in the Ultra Forest (I didn't know Trainers were there at all) landing a crit Leaf Blade with Kartana, and I also lost my Totem-sized Lurantis to an extradimensional Abomasnow that I, due to the circumstances, had no choice but to attempt to Quick Ball. So it goes both ways, I guess.
