>>40420933Even though I think the Wild Area is an amazing step in the right direction, I think some things could have been made better.
I personally think the textures for the foreground objects and Pokémon, albeit functional at this moment are starting to show their age, and dynamax is the most clear example where you can see Pokemon textures and models aren't meant for HD, because flat colors are too noticeable in some cases more than others. For example, in the Maxed Milotic pic that appeared somewhere. That's why I think Dynamax was a mistake.
As for the animations, we've already seen walking and running animations programmed in the 3DS games but for some reason Game Freak didn't feel like making them shine. Using them with a companion Pokemon in the Wild Area was a hugely wasted potential. Personally I think some sort of real time battling would have been perfect for the immersion in that zone, but that requires much more planning and thinking.
As for the environment, from what we've seen in the pictures, is functional, but it looks unpolished at best and mediocre at worst. It looks too cramped for what it intends to be, and looks more like an OOT Hyrule Plains than the thing journos and Game Freak themselves were peddling since 2018, looking more like a golf course than a proper natural environment. Foregrounds could have been handled better in both textures and models; but the background elements look a bit better.
That's mostly my take on graphics. I personally think Game Freak could have done much better in that area, considering the huge amount of revenue these games get and the non-bloat manpower they could have used.
