Can be a bit of a slog sometimes because battles take a very long time due to the cutscenes playing every single turn.
Areas where its just battle after battle after battle suck.
Though some didn't like this aspect, I actually kinda liked the limited selection of Pokemon. Encourages you to use ones that you normally never would.
The actual challenge of the battles was really nice though. You don't see many trainers in modern games using advanced strategies. Like Slowbro Skill Swapping with Slaking.
Music across both was stellar, too.
Would be cool to see the main cast in something like Pokemon Masters.
