We almost had it. Imagine if Gen 7 strictly built off of Gen 6's solid foundation and fixed the shit that was abhorrent.
Everything changed after Iwata died and Ishihara started throwing shit at the wall to see what stuck.

For the love of god just re implement the PSS. Searching for stamps is clunky, doesn't work half the time even when you force refresh, and removes any interaction it felt like we had with other people in Gen 6.
They had it perfect and that's evident in how active the PSS still is nowadays.

BW was so boring for me that I lost interest in Pokemon for awhile and didn't get back into it until XY. Not that XY themselves were particularly good but at the time a ton of people were picking them up and the online was the best in the franchise which got me invested all over again.

Gen 6 - specifically XY, because it was the first time I had seriously played a Pokemon game since Gen 3 (where I began losing interest) because of the PSS making online play really easy. I made a lot of friends and really enjoyed the experience. I don't think the games are particularly good but I have fond memories of them that no other Pokemon game has given me.

Gen VI had one of the best features to ever grace this franchise: the PSS. Unfortunately, since it's GF, we will never see it again. Heck, Gen VII dropped it in favor of the plaza.

XY were shit games and a real step down from BW/2 but they were honestly the most fun I had with Pokemon since I was a kid. The early online scene with no hacking coupled with the PSS for easy online functionality just made a really good post-game experience, even if the actual single player content was lacking. It's not a game I'd recommend now but given the context at the time, it was great.

Good post. I think I enjoyed the multiplayer in XY so much that it made me forget about some of the bad things, because I completely forgot about >>39961914, >>39961679, and >>39962012 until this thread. Random shoutout messages, birthdays, "Nice!"s, friend safaris as incentive for adding friends, giving out O-powers, etc...

Now I'm unironically thinking I would've enjoyed gen 7 substantially more just from having the PSS.
