this sucked
not as badly as SS1/SS2, but it was 'competitive' despite the fact it's only halfway done, so there's a good chance it manages to gain back the crown of 'worst fangame'
the good:
i liked the portraits, and i do think 10.5 made the early game more tolerable than it was
i love the soundtrack for this game, it's the best part by far
while i don't think the story is 'good', i think it's better than most fangames, just from the fact it's coherent and there's some characters i like. it's about reborn tier.
i did end up really liking some of the pokemon changes such as farfetch'd or grapploct, and some of the strategies i was able to use were pretty cool.
the bad:
the move changes are WAY worse than the pokemon changes. it's so annoying to have all these new moves, with new effects, you're not told about, or better yet when they have altered accuracy for no fucking reason. it made almost every single fight in this game worse than it should have been, especially when there's a bunch of chaotic move effects and delayed effects flying around you can barely keep track of.
the quest design in this game is a mess. nowhere near as bad as SS2, but there's way too many times when you have to look at a guide to figure out where to go, or sidequests that rely on other sidequests, or 'sidequests' the game demands you do to progress with the plot that i now have to go back and do.
the field effects in this game are by far the worst of any rebornlike. there's some that are ok, but the majority have incredibly obnoxious gimmicks slapped on for no reason at all, the worst by far is chaparral, i honestly don't understand the philosophy there beyond 'frustrate the player'
the NPCs in this game all suck. political essays are not good dialogue, sorry. i'm glad there's a speedup button, like holy shit after SS2 I didn't think i'd have to be glad about that, but holy fuck.
