From trials being a last minute addition to swap in place of Alola's gyms to them deciding not to bring over shit like the PSS or National Dex because of "performance concerns" it just marked the beginning of new gen games being really unambitious. But the reason that's so upsetting for Sun and Moon in particular is because at least from what we can see from the leaks and concept art it was going to be the most ambitious Pokemon game of them all to start before they neutered it.
