The one thing I always defended and said pokemon never let down was character and pokemon art/design, specifically trainer and pokemon design. There was always ups and downs, but even the atrocity that was gen 8 had decent trainer and pokemon designs in it.
S/V is the first pokemon main game that I think the art design is bad. It's just baffling. What happened to the art? It's like an entire different team took over.
The pokemon for the first time since gen 1 actually, unironically, don't look like pokemon at all. GF has been slowly changing their design philosophy for pokemon designs, but gen 9 is such a sudden, extreme change, it's like if we jumped from gen1 to gen5. We've gone from a few cartoon animals and a few extreme shapes to an entire dex of nothing but shapes and cartoon animals. Not even bug types got spared, and bug types consistently always had good designs.
Then there's trainer designs, they just look so childish, like they're part of a educative baby cartoon, everyone looks ugly, goofy or incredibly young. Any remotely attractive designs looks like it was designed for lesbians.
What the fuck happened?
