Bittercold and Dark Matter as physically realized masses of negative emotion that evidently build up over time. Likewise, we see the Voice of Life as some sort of manifestation of Pokemon will to live (?) or at least something that seems to be at the opposite end of the spectrum of Bittercold/Dark Matter. If this is the case, then we could expect to see a Dark Souls-esque cycle of negative feelings congregating into a threat to existence before being dealt with repeating through the series. Of course, nobody actually wants that because it would be boring and even more repetitive in an already formulaic series.
