With every other friendly rival, you crush them and they just accept that they'll always be lesser to you, some even giving up on being a trainer entirely. If they were in this situation, they'd just go "haha you really are the chosen one protag-kun!" and give you a clap on the shoulder.
Kieran on the other hand, has the ego and menhera to not stand for that shit. He goes "FUCK you" and has his joker moment in all his seething anger. He's so mad he doesn't even continue using his furret, he dumps that rat.
Even if you're still made out to be a real scummy friend, this is at least being done in an engaging way.
